I'll give you the Vancouver game, the Ducks were going through the motions, but they played great in the Buffalo game. The Sabres scored their goal when Bernier misplayed the puck and it deflected in off of a skate. The Ducks hit 5 posts that game, Perry with two of them. Sometimes it's just not in the cards. The Ducks played well against Buffalo, they just didn't get the second point. I'll take that.

This is a fun themed post Ed! Good job on lightening up the mood before the entire hockey webiverse goes crazier than the Battle of Klendathu. I’ll take a shot at this myself, because why not?

”Kill them! Kill them all!” - Starship Troopers

The penalty kill has been dominant, which is a must given how many minor penalties this team takes. Randy Carlyle has mentioned numerous times throughout the year that you’re not going to win hockey games without an effective PK. Last year, Anaheim went into the postseason ranked #1 in PK and PP. Unfortunately, Ryan Kesler got caught up doing the heavy, heavy lifting in games 1 and 2, which inevitably inhibited his effectiveness. Killing penalties is hard minutes. Probably the hardest minutes in all of hockey.

There are a lot of things to discuss about last year’s tribulations that should be looked at as this team heads towards the playoffs. I thought through the first half of the season the penalty situation had improved. Lately, it has been slightly better after a down swing. Judging by how this team started the postseason the past few years, it seems like they believed that the refs were just going to swallow their whistles. Refs call penalties. Kesler, Silfverberg, Cogliano and Getzlaf will all attest to that. For me, starting a playoff run with penalty trouble is not the way things should pan out. Plain and simple.

”Survive.” - Tron

I see a winning group here. I believe they have the tools to make a strong push. The defensive depth for the hard minutes is practically unparalleled. Furthermore, I think Getzlaf is a Captain that’s capable of winning a Stanley Cup. It would be nice for both Getzlaf and Perry to establish themselves as premier leaders, and not just great players. That’s on them though, as is the case with everyone in that locker room. The elusive question that’s remained unanswered for four years now is: Can this group play their absolute best when they need to? We’ll see.

Corey Perry continues to be a douche and is acting out all the time, then crying about it.

I could quote Drill Sergeant Hartman all day, but I try to keep it PG-13 or so.

Edmonton is at the Honda Center tonight. It should be a good game. Possibly a preview of a quarterfinal match up. They're a skilled group, and they are being coached by a very competitive coach. I expect this to be a good game. I haven't heard anything on Gibson, so it can be presumed Bernier gets the start. Looking at the Oilers roster, McDavid obviously stands out. Guy's a Kingslayer. He lulls and then stabs in the back. Then there is ex-Duck Patrick "Game Puck Thief" Maroon. It was about a year ago he stole that game puck. Maroon is one of those players where you just couldn't tell it he was going to make it. I think getting him away from a team that fights as much as the Ducks has been good for him, as he has put up 25 goals on the year. I'd be lying if I wasn't hoping for Boll to be in the lineup, and see round 2 of Boll v Maroon. We'll see if Boll draws in. Dude has a mean right hand.

”So you’re telling me there’s a chance … YEAH!” - Dumb & Dumber

How did we get here? With 8 games left to be played in the regular season Anaheim has found themselves tied atop the Pacific division with the San Jose Sharks. Chicago has basically solidified themselves as the top seed out of the Western Conference, as anyone with a brain can easily see tonight will be the final nail in LA’s coffin. Does 2+2=4? I rest my case.

This season has been an interesting one. We haven’t seen the lengthy win streaks that we saw under Boudreau’s tenure, yet somehow there’s a chance that this team will take their 5th Pacific Division title in 5 years. I think winning the Pacific isn’t a bad thing. Last year was last year, as was the year before that. If trends continue (for this team), they’re probably looking at Calgary, Nashville or St. Louis in the first round. Three teams this group matches up well against. With some of the maturity that’s been on display lately, these teams are certainly beatable.

”So that means that every single day that you see me, that’s on the worst day of my life.” - Office Space

#10 found the back of the net last night, but when the camera panned to him on the bench he was not a happy camper. Things haven’t gone right for Perry this year, yet compared to the massive underperformers by a few of our foes up the 5, is there really cause for complain?

I like watching the Ritchie-Vermette-Perry line out on the ice. For me, I see that line being most successful when Perry is strong on the puck, and Ritchie is the most irritating player on the ice for both teams. I don’t know how much Carlyle has pushed Ritchie emotionally, but the more he’s engaged in just being a problem for the opposition's defense that creates more time and space for the other guys. Vermette is going to Vermette. He’s going to win draws, be physical and find the back of the net if given the opportunity. All I’m saying is I think that line has more to give, and will need to be consistently finding the back of the net if this team is going to have postseason success.

”He had very little report with his staff and his dispatches.”
“Rapport! Very little RAPPORT with his staff, franking moron!” - Burn After Reading

I don’t know what Dean Lombardi was thinking when he made the choice to be buyers at the trade deadline. Was it him or his staff that couldn’t see something as obvious as this? Are LA’s best days behind them? There are just so many questions, and all we can do is speculate. Here’s another, will LA throw away another top 15 pick on a rental? As an observer, when I see LA’s management decisions, I can only help but think that that’s what it’s like to take a step out of the Moon Door. Wow!
